I Did IT!

After 19 years and a lot of hard work, I have officially graduated with my Bachelor’s in English/Writing! I have been accepted into EOU’s MFA in creative writing program, which yay, but I am also applying to Texas A&M for an MA in Literature. It has not been easy. I have been grinding down, taking as many classes as possible for two and a half years straight, but I managed to finish my AA and then my B.S. I am taking a short break between now and working on my master’s, but I am back to working through my rather large TBR list, which has grown extensively, and am currently reading “Mindhunter” by John Douglas and Mark Olshaker, don’t expect a shelf entry on this one. Well maybe. I haven’t decided. It is not a book for everyone. But if you are a crime junkie, or interested in serial killers, or how law enforcement finds these people, then I strongly recommend picking this book up. I am also finishing “Reykjavik”, and will start reading “The Fury”. I am super stoked about a book release coming next month by Jasper Fforde (one of my top five favorite authors), called “Red Side Story” which is a sequel to “Shades of Gray”, which is one of my favorite novels.

I will note sitting idly by reading books and waiting on acceptance letters. No, no. I have novels to write. That is the dream after all. My long-term plan for financial stability is to teach English, Literature, and Creative Writing at a collegiate level after I finish grad school, the big dream is to publish my writing. That has always been the dream, but I am one of those people with that nasty voice in their ear telling them they are no good and that the story is stupid. Not gonna lie, having to share my writing with others, even the first imperfect draft, really helped me get over my fears of sharing my work. I have also realized that you are never too old and it is never too late to go after your dreams and accomplish what you have always wanted even when life gets crazy and a bit off track. Just because someone got it right out of the gate does not mean it is the right path for everyone, we just take a little longer and have a bumpier road to travel. And that is also okay.

Feel free to give reading suggestions, I am always up for expanding my tastes, so I am not discriminate when it comes to genre.
